Gas cap installed, functional side vents and a whole lot more!

Well it’s been a little while since I gave you all an update on how my old girl is going but that’s been because not much has been happening. But now I have some post worthy news.

Slowly but surely it’s coming together. The side brake cooling vents have been made to be functional as you can see below.

The gas cap has also been installed and looks great! You often see some cars that have the gas cap sitting out a bit off the panel, but this one is sunk in and flush, just the way i like it!

The gas cap has also been made functional with a custom made side filler tube that connects through the trunk to the fuel tank. This was custom made for my car by the guy handling the body work! It looks top notch.

The rear panel is also now mocked up, the fit isn’t the best but will be worked on in the coming weeks. We’re just trying to decide on the best way to affix the kit, what glues etc. But things are coming together fast.

The hood hinges have also now been installed and the bonnet is now on the car! She looks mean.

Stay tuned more info coming soon. I’m looking into a Tremec TKO500 transmission this week, so I could have some good news very soon.

Eleanor sells at Shannons Auctions Australia

For those who don’t know, Shannons Auctions regularly holds Auctions in Sydney and Melbourne here in Australia.

Since 1981 Shannons Auctions have conducted Australia’s biggest collectable vehicle auctions including the prestigious Australian International Motor Show Auction in Sydney and The Melbourne International Motor Show.

Shannons has grown with the support from the Australian Car Club movement and is intimately involved in supporting clubs and motoring enthusiasts through promotions and event sponsorships of swap meets, rallies and concours each year.

Last night saw the 2007 Shannons Sydney Winter Classic Auction take place in suburban Sydney and amongst the cars was lot 17, a 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback ‘Eleanor’ Replica (LHD) which was sold for $AUS 75,000 (Approx $USD 65,400) which i thought was a pretty good price, though on a close inspection the car doesn’t look it’s best, and i’m not sure on the paint job.

The particulars are as follows:

The chassis has an Eccentric Eliminator kit, a negative wedge camber correction kit, Shelby-style A-arm relocation kit and front sway bar, competition drop springs, KYB gas adjustable shocks, rear sway bar and drop rear springs. Lots of improvements have been made with safety in mind, including a brand new 16-gallon fuel tank and sending unit, new fuel lines and disc brakes all round. The engine is a fully balanced and blueprinted Cleveland 351-cid V8 with four bolt main and 4V heads, Crane roller rockers and lifters and 11:1 compression ratio. The gearbox is a Tremec TKO500 five-speed with 3.70 Torque Lock posi and Mag Dog racing clutch. Everything under the bonnet has been uprated to suit, including the big block radiator, dual electric fan/shroud, High Torque mini starter, Holley chrome high volume fuel pump and much more. Externally, the Mustang really looks the part with a fibreglass Eleanor kit, Eleanor 17-inch wheels, billet-style grille treatment, new Cobra filler cap and all new headlight, turn signal and tail light assemblies. The cabin really complements the exterior, with a Sport Deck fold-down rear seat, centre console, brushed aluminium dash and door panel kit and a LaCarrera steering wheel. The interior has new carpets, dash pad, upholstery, headliner, sills, rubbers, seat belts and visors. The air conditioning unit has a new compressors, hoses and exchanger and the heater blower replaced.

I Can’t say I’m sold on it, but it’s good to see yet another one running around my local area and it’s also good to find another example with a TKO installed, which is what I’m wanting to do but have been told it’s very difficult.

Correct steering wheel sells on Ebay

Well you may all remember my massive task to find the correct steering wheel as used in the movie Gone in 60 Seconds, posted HERE.

Well one has come up on Ebay and has sold for a whopping $USD513.97 This just goes to show how rare these wheels are.

Here’s a run down of the auction:

For sale, purchased in 2003 for an Eleanor build up from Branda. Never used in new condition. One steering wheel, hub, and GT500 horn button as used on Eleanor cars. This is a wood steering wheel, will work on tilt columns unless hub is modified. Purchase price was 428.00 when new, offered at less then half. Please email with other questions. Thank you.

On Jul-03-07 at 10:12:01 PDT, seller added the following information:

A correction to the original description. The steering hub will not work with tilt away columns unless modified. Also will not work with flaming river columns unless a new hub is purchased.

You can view the auction HERE.

The correct movie steering wheel had more rivets than the one easily found today that has around 9. The 17/18 rivet wheel was originally made in France for Lecarra steering wheels but once production was stopped in and around 2002 the wheels vanished completely. They returned last year being made in American for Lecarra but the quality was noticeably not the same and they only sported 9 rivets.

HID projector lamp tests

Ok so I managed to get a quick test done of the BOSCH single xenon projectors I’m using for the HID retrofit. For those who don’t know, I’m retrofitting the car with some modern xenon headlights. I’m not a fan of the vintage ‘yellow’ dull looking light output. Modern projectors are not only safer but they look damn cool!

So anyway here are two shots I have of each projector, I was just testing to see their output and how they worked. It’s a bit rushed but they’re the best shots i could get. They should be done in a few weeks, then I’ll post lots of pictures.
