Some of you rev heads may have seen The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift from a few years back and some of you may have missed it all together, but one of the most intriguing things in the movie was a 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback powered by a Nissan RB26DETT which is originally found in the holy grail of all Japanese performance cars, the Nissan Skyline GT-R. The twin-turbocharged inline six delivers about 320-330 horsepower….

There was a lot of bickering about this due to the fact the vintage enthusiasts were angry that a iconic car had it’s heart ripped out and replaced with a modern Japanese engine, while the modern Japanese car lovers were angry such an engine was placed in such an ‘unworthy’ car.

Though if you’re interested in buying the car you can do that also. The Volo Auto Museum is selling one of the actual movie cars. There’s no price tag attached but i bet it’s not cheap.
Ha! Let them bicker all they want, I’m a huge Import & Muscle car fan and I think this car is the best of both worlds.

Yeah… the engine didn’t work in the car. They wanted to run the V-6 to go with the whole “drifter” theme, but they had plumbing issues with it. they pulled it out and put in the engine that SHOULD have been in the car the whole time, a rumbling AMERICAN V-8. Still, the car is amazing. Single exhaust exit looks kind of funny though…
rb26dett is a twin turbo STRAIGHT six…not a v6, sorta a lot longer. direct competitor of the bmw straight six’s and the supra’s straight six….straight six’s have a very flat torque band thats highly desirable. just add boost, right?
