This is something that has been playing on my mind for a quite some time. Should I notch the shock towers to allow more room for some nice extractors or should I leave it as is?
Originally I had no worries with notching the towers which meant lots more room (about 11″) for some nice extractors such as these. I even bought the RRS notching kit. But now I’m leaning towards leaving it as is. Mainly because I don’t want to change the look of the engine bay too dramatically and also I want to keep the engine bay quite ‘correct’ in the way of decals. I know there is one decal that is placed on the towers.
Keeping it all original in the engine bay is something I’m very adamant about now. I was fortunate enough to get my car with the original engine, all matching numbers. Plus it’s a 289 not a 351 or something bigger.
The plus side to having the extra room I’m told is that we could fit some nice extractors and bits and pieces helping to give the car a nice sound about her.
Take a look at what the RRS notching kit can looks like. So what do you think? I’m keen to hear your thoughts.

Nah not my front end. I wish I was that far along. I think we’ve decided to not notch. just leave it and come up with some custom extractors later down the track.
