I had an interesting email this week from one of my readers who was browsing the stories of the 1965 Playboy Pink cconvertible that my builder has. Tony read the post and thought he would email in the pictures of his car. A 1967 Pink Convertible that has quite a unique story to it.
Tony came across the car in 1981 when he met an older gentlmen that claimed to work for Ford back in the day. The car is apparently 1 of only 5 that were built exclusivley for a Reader’s Digest Sweepstake giveaway. It was also said that the executive of Reader’s Digest at the time was on hand touring the factory as the five cars were being built.
Unfortunately though Tony doesn’t have any documentation to back up the story but the car does look like something special. I haven’t had a chance to look into it so if anyone out there has any information on the five special cars get in contact with me as I’m sure Tony would love to have some more information.
So what does Tony say about his use for the car? “I used the car to take the kids for a ride to the beach of go for ice cream and we just enjoyed it as a family fun car. My children are all grown up now and maybe I will take the grand kid for rides now.” Lucky grand kid.

If that’s a 302 / 2V, what happened to the original engine? The 302 wasn’t available in the Mustang until ‘68.
Good eye Bob,
This is what Tony has said:
“When it was restored in 81 the engine in the car was the second engine , so we replaced it with a 1979 302 with 10,000 miles on it. The 302 engine that is in the car is the 3rd engine, with about 20,000 miles on the car at this time.”
Cheers
Cam
I have an almost identical car with a straight six that is all original. I got it from my Mother in law who was the original owner. I understood that these were Playboy 25th anniversary cars and there were about 100 made. Anyone who has any information, please contact me.

Not that I’m totally impressed, but this is a lot more than I expected when I found a link on SU telling that the info here is awesome. Thanks.
