eBay Find: The Fast & The Furious RB26 Powered Ford Mustang
I would never have thought I would see this car for sale on eBay, though it seems everything ends up on there these days. Towards the end of last year I blogged about the 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback that appeared in the Hollywood movie The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift. What made this car interesting was that it was powered by a Nissan RB26DETT which is originally found in the holy grail of all Japanese performance cars, the Nissan Skyline GT-R.
At the time of writing the auction is fetching US $45,100 with four days left to run. But what’s interesting about this auction is the description. It seems the current owner(s) of the car have had to sign a confidentiality agrement in which it states they cannot name the movie or studio this car belonged to and further to that “The winning bidder will be required to sign a release of liability and sign an agreement not to advertise the name of the movie or to name the studio should the car be resold.”
What’s even more amusing are the pictures which clearly show stickers on the car stating the movie name.
In my original post I noted that one of the movies cars was on display at Volo Auto Museum in Chicago and the seller of this car has stated “After completion of the movie, the car was put on display for promotion and displayed at an Auto Museum near Chicago. Recently the car was taken back to the shop. The engine was completely rebuilt and all the little details – such as new carpet, adding power front windows, painting scratched panels, replacing mirrors, etc.”
If you’re keen on buying or just interested in the car then check out the following video.
