Classic Speed Inc – Mustangs from Manila

It’s not too often we hear about an established Mustang builder producing cars out of an old aircraft hanger. And certainly not one based in the Southern Hemisphere. Though that’s just what Classic Speed Inc are doing. It’s time the other side of the world can rejoice! Located in the Philippines at the former US Air Force Base Clark Field, 90 km’s north of Manila. The re-born “Special Economic Zone” was established after the US Military left following the eruption of Mount Pinatubo. This zone rejuvenation has provided the perfect location for the guys at Classic Speed. Positioning them well to setup a large scale operation maily aimed at Australian and New Zealand clients.

Classic Speed seem to specialise in right-hand-drive Mustang conversions and after arriving by sea freight from the USA the cars clear customs and are delivered to the factory where work begins on either custom cars already purchased by clients or cars destined for the showroom floor.

You can choose to buy a car straight off said floor and in which case in will take approximately 8-weeks to land in Australia from Manila. More obviously to the USA or Europe.

Though if you choose to go down the custom route the team there will work with you to create your one of a kind vehicle. Depending on the customers specifications the build will typically take 10 – 12 months.

However one thing also encouraged by the team at Classic Speed is to fly into Manila and visit the factory in person. They will also arrange some laps at the local international race track to help you choose which Mustang fits you. Bonus!

One thing is for sure, if we’re ever in the Manila area we’ll be stopping by for a visit.

Classic Recreations take MustangsDaily inside their Oklahoman workshop

It’s been a good four years since we were taken inside Classic Recreations home of operations to see how they put together their world famous continuation Shelby Mustangs. This past week however, the guys over at MustangsDaily got the grand tour.

It’s funny to think when we last took a look inside the CR workshop the GT500CR wsa not even being built. But now four years on we’re privilidged to have a range of continuation Shelby’s rolling off their production line. Even right hand drive versions for the UK and Australian customers.

We’re not going to steal MustangDaily’s thunder so head on over there to check out their write up and fantastic pictures.

Classic Recreations on Hot Rod TV Show off New ‘Villain’ Mustang

It’s not too often we get to see great videos covering vintage Mustangs and we rarely get to see inside the modern day restorers work shop. Last year we shared some brief videos inside Yukon Mustang builders Classic Recreations headquarters. Though now SPEED Channel’s Hot Rod TV have gotten access inside the workshop. The episode mainly features Classic Recreations’ foray into modern day Mustang coach-building and the company’s work on their all new 2012 ‘Villain’ Mustang they were preparing for SEMA. We also get to see owner Jason Engel check out the 2012 Hot Rod Power Tour.

Be The Envy of… Nobody with These Unique Performance T-Shirts

We all know about the public demise of the once powerhouse that was Unique Performance. Once loved by everyone for what they were doing in the vintage mustang restoration scene they quickly became one of the most despised companies after they were found to be using prisoners to build cars, not delivering on orders and losing hundreds of thousands of dollars of customer funds.

Once bankrupt the company was broken down and every little piece was sold off so creditors could recoup some of the $900,000 owed. Though these days most of the odds and ends from the Unique Performance auctions have been long used on other cars or sold off you still can find things like shifters and t-shirts popping up on eBay.

This seller is almost done with selling off his box of 50 Unique Performance t-shirts. At the time of writing only 3 are available. We certainly wouldn’t want to be wearing one of these around the local restoration shop. Did someone say awkward?

[eBay] Unique Performance 1968 Shelby ‘Eleanor’ Mustang Body Sells for $26k

Who can forget the downfall of the once hyped Unique Performance? We certainly don’t. After all it was most definitely the biggest news and talking points regarding vintage Mustangs at the time. We watched as the company declared bankruptcy, faced allegations of using prisoners to build cars and the many claims sad stories of customers losing all their savings. All of that has past now and we rarely hear about Unique Performance. Everything about them was auctioned off and split up in an attempt to recoup the losses. It’s for that reason it is rare to see a Unique Performance body up for sale. Though one did pass through eBay afew weeks back and sold for $26,100

The car apparently was bought at the Unique Performance auction and came with a clear title and VIN. It apparently has had over 300+ hours of work done on it which we could say is debatable. Regardless it looks like the winning bidder got themselves a good deal. Given what we can tell from the pictures.

Classic Recreations Unveil Shelby G.T.500CR Convertible

It seems the team over at Classic Recreations have been busy lately. This coming week we have it on good authority they will be revealing their latest model to be added to the CR stable. The GT500CR Convertible.

Since the success of the regular GT500CR models it was only a matter of time until we saw a convertible GT500 from the Oklahoma factory and you can see from the pictures the car exudes the same appeal and class that the other models a famed for.

As with all Classic Recreation builds the convertibles to will be added to the official Shelby registry. But to wear the Shelby name is a privilege and one only certain performance cars can claim fame to.

And for that the Shelby GT500CR is no slouch. Starting with an original 1967 or 1968 Mustang Convertible a complete restoration is done including media blasting, sheet metal replacement and a show winning paint and body. Yes we can assume as it is a convertible it is most probably heavier than a normal Fastback due to the body strengthening requirements (I could be wrong) but with a 427 Crate motor packing 545hp and 770hp per model respectively you can also assume the grin on your face will be the only thing that matters.

Both models (Performance – $145,000 and 900s – $199,000) are jammed packed with just about every modern piece of kit you can have in a vintage vehicle and are fully customizable.

The NEW Classic Recreations 1967 Shelby GT500CR 900S

MSN Autos recently named the 1967 Shelby G.T.500 the “ultimate muscle car.” The Shelby G.T.500CR-900S model starts with a legend, and injects it with modern supercar technology: a 770 horsepower supercharged engine, advanced multi-link race car inspired suspension, an opulent interior and modern turn-key reliability. It’s the newest car to come from Classic Recreations and it’s a monster.

It’s been a while since we saw something new from the guys over at Classic Recreations. The last animal was the GT500CR Venom. Well now it’s seen an update and it’s called the GT500 900S. What’s so different you ask? Well it gains an extra 10BHP and is powered by a 427ci V8 engine paired to a ProCharger F1-R centrifugal supercharger for a total output of 790 HP.

Classic Recreations Bringing a Shelby G.T.350CR To The Market?

There’s lots of chatter this week around Classic Recreations and the fact that they may be introducing a Shelby G.T.350CR to the market to sit along side their popular G.T.500CR models. This would make sense given the success of their current models so after a bit of digging I can quite confidently confirm that Classic Recreations will be introducing a G.T350 model.

Details are sketchy and I have no idea when the new model will be introduced but I can tell you I believe it will feature a 545 HP 427 cubic inch stroker motor, authentic Shelby Performance Parts, rack and pinion steering, race inspired coil over suspension and oversized disc brakes.

The cars will apparently be based on a 1965 and 1966 model mustang as expected and will start around the $120,000 mark with upgrades available.

I had a rendering sent to me earlier this week but CR will neither confirm or deny it’s coming, though given the rendering is designed almost identically like their G.T.500 renderings I think it’s safe to say this is a given.

1:18 Scale Shelby Collectibles Die Cast G.T.500CR

We’ve all seen die cast Mustangs on the market, I’ve even got myself a funny looking GT500 look-a-like. But I’ve always thought it would be cool to have one sitting in the study that looked as mean as the car that I was building. Thankfully there’s one on its way, and it’s the familiar Shelby GT500CR from Classic Recreations.

Info is limited right now as they are fresh off the production line but I do know they will be available to ship late August 2011. They all have Classic Recreations labeled on the box as the builder and each also includes the history of the G.T. 500CR. Stay glued to Classic Recreations for more info. Now just to get my hands on one!

Classic Recreations Are Going Green

It’s been some time since we’ve have an update from the guys over at Classic Recreations. Jason and his team have been busy producing their Shelby GT500CR models and it appears business is going from strength to strength.

Jason informs me that it’s an exciting time for the company and that interest for the new CR models has been great.

This past week they even produced this beauty in the classic Shelby Lime Gold color and I felt like I had to share these pictures.

Stay tuned though. I’ve also been told a GT500CR convertible version is soon to be available.
