In January I posted about Michael’s world first factory right hand drive Shelby. Well this week he’s given me an update with pictures and video. Take a look after the jump.

From the looks of it it seems Michael’s build is coming along very well and very quickly! How jealous am I! Here’s Michael’s update.

“The Boys at Robert St Restorations have been working around the clock on my car, they have been working on it 6 days per week. You will notice that in the last month they have covered quite a bit of ground, the body kit is only a few days now from completion and I must say they have done an incredible job.

The body kits are a huge job to install, 1st the bonnet is a lot thicker than an original metal framed bonnet, hence when we first bolted it up it sat 1/2 an inch above the guards. I think the rear end was probably the most time consuming, once again the fibreglass boot was thicker than the original.

The Dynacorn shells don’t come perfect from the factory so some minor adjustments are required to make them right, I’ve been informed that the following shells should be corrected from the factory so some of the work we did won’t be needed.

Soon the guys will put all the running gear back in and do all the testing and send it for paint in 2-3 weeks.”

I was recently contacted by a fellow Australian conducting a very intersting Mustang build and after seeing some photos, short videos and the the upcoming interest from the media I must say this looks to be something I am going to follow very closely.

The interesting part about this build is it will be an official right hand drive Shelby vehicle. Contracts have apparently been signed and Michael says “[The car] will be entered it into the shelby registry and it will have the build No. 001 as it will be the worlds first factory RHD Shelby.”

Michael says there has been some great media interest in the build saying “We have a channel 7 program interested in filming the build from scratch to completion over 12 episodes, I think it’s going to be called chariots of desire when i know more I will let you know” Now that would be something! a twelve episode serious on a Mustang build! lets keep our fingers crossed.

The car is currently being built by Robert st Restorations by George, the owner and his crew. Micheal went on to discuss the finances behind the car “We discussed a budget at the start and we plan on staying close to that, so far so good, George has a genuine interest in this car and a real love for mustangs and AC cobras. His other project is a 67 mustang coupe which Street Machine have been filming the build and will be doing a feature very soon. Another staff member, Mathew, has thrown himself into this project to assist in the build up and as a marketing tool for his products, through him we got the deal with Carrol Shelby to make it authentic.”

Most of the cars running gear comes from the locally manufactured RRS guys and the chasis is a RHD Dynacorn body. Here is a rundown of what the car will be made up of:

So it’s about time I gave an update on Damian’s ‘Kimberly’ project. Last update Damian shared with us the fresh paint job but now lots more has been added and the car is on track for a April completion date.

Damian recently visited his build over Christmas to oversee how everything was going saying “the motor will be ready for dyno 3rd week of January. They were just waiting on the roll cage which arrived this week so that they could put the interior back together. All rear suspension is in and they have started on the boxes for the stereo unit.”

I’m very interested in seeing how the stereo works out. This is something im tossing up with for mine. Should I put a custom stereo in with added speakers? Or use the original speaker locations (with new speakers) and the new CD changers made to look like the original radios

Well Damian, she is looking amazing. I can’t wait for some finished pics and maybe even some HD Video of her rolling around your streets. Stay tuned!

Well this project restoration has been going on for quite some time. It’s one of the only ones that was on the go while my car and Toby’s car were being restored and now I’ts finally finished and has been delivered to the waiting owner. John tells me this car had all RRS running gear on it.

You may remember I took a little road trip to go visit this car a earlier in the year. She was looking fine then. I only wish I could have seen the finished project in the flesh before she was delivered to the new proud owner.

John also said, “It’s gone to the owner today, now I can concentrate on Toby’s full time, still got a way to go”

A new one to the readers rides on 67mustangblog. Andrew contacted me last week to tell me about his sweet ride. This beautiful red 1967 Fastback he’s named ‘Hayley’

“I’ve been a big fan of Eleanor since I saw the Nic Cage film, and had always dreamed of owning my own beast.” Andrew Says. “I finally picked up a ’67 Fastback a few months ago, with the intention of building an Eleanor”.

The car was named Hayley after the red-haired singer from the alternative rock band Paramore and is a right hand drive car with a 02, 4 speed top-loader and Motec fuel-injection.

Such is the dedication to this build Andrew has rented his house out and moved back to his folks place. Why? Well his father has a workshop, no better place to live than at the workshop! Work begins in a few weeks but there is a problem! “I now have this dilemma” he says. “I’ve kind of grown fond of the classic Muscle Car look of it!! So I’m stuck between an Eleanor and the classic look.”

After pressing some more Andrew admits “As much as I love the Eleanor mustangs, I think I’m going to keep her stock. I have a poster of Eleanor in my lounge room, so I’ll just look at her each night, satisfied with knowing I could’ve had her if I wanted to”

Over here in Australian it’s always fun mucking around with our right hand drive dash pieces, and I’m sure some of you are aware the issues and trouble we have to go to for a deluxe dash. Well a friend of mine over here has gone to a lot of trouble and designed his own RHD dash pieces. Check it out after the jump.

Here’s what Mike had to see early on with the project. “I’m doing a complete right hand dash assembly CNC machined in ABS and then plastic plated. I designed it in 3D CAD, couldn’t count how many hours I’ve put into it but it’s in the hundreds! Mainly because I restarted from scratch twice! A friend of mine who has a CNC factory in Sanya, China is going to cut it for me at the right price. I won’t be commercialising it as it would be too expensive but as a one-off it should look good.”

Then this a few weeks later. “I just had the dash cut from my 3D cad design (as mentioned in a previous post), it’s yet to be chromed but he sent me pictures of it in the raw. I still need to make the aluminium inserts but that will be a piece of piss by comparison. I attached a few pictures of it in the raw machined ABS.”

And finally yesterday “Finally got the dash parts today. Now just have to do the brushed inserts and black-outs. Pretty pleased with them so far!”

It’s been awfully quiet from Adrian since his Classic Recreations Eleanor hit our shores, though who wouldn’t blame him, he has an amazing and awesomely powerful Mustang.

Though yesterday Adrian filled me in on what he’s been doing and sent over some photos with it.

So what I didn’t know is that Adrian’s friend Paul also bought a Classic Recreations mustang also a 750hp model and Adrian thinks these are the only two 750hp models in Australia. Both were also very fortunate to save about $AUD20,000 in taxes because the managed to bring their cars in just before the Australian luxury car tax was increased.

Adrian says “You can see Pauls car in the latest Street Machine magazine”

I’m going to go out and buy the copy of Street Machine mag with Paul’s car in it, apparently he explains his problems a little more. I’ll try bringing it to you as soon as I can.

Believe it or not Adrian’s car is still not registered. He’s had some small problems with the engineers but is confident the engineers will sign off this week and it will be ready for registration.

Wow, what a transformation this car has had over the months! Damian got in touch today with a whole heap of photos showing the progress of his ‘Kimberly‘ Eleanor project. Last time I posted an update the car was ready for paint. Now the paint has been laid down she looks tantalizingly close to completion. Damian must be extremely pleased.

Here’s what Damian had to say.

“I just went south yesterday to look at Eleanor/Kimberly and can I tell you that I am pumped. She looks great and is finally starting to look like something I would take out on a date. After I took these images she is heading off for a wet block and another couple of coats silver and clear to get a bit more depth in the paint.

Then the fun part starts putting her back together so I will be able to send you more frequent updates. The 347 Boss with Blower is about half way done. And the guys are currently in the USA picking up the exhaust, roll cage and having the dash signed by Mr Shelby himself.”

Recently I posted a YouTube video of some workers from Classic Recreations testing a right hand drive Mustang bound for Australia. Well after the lucky owner of that car saw my post and contacted me we got talking.

Adrian researched his purchase for over two years and finally settled on Classic Recreations because they are officially licensed vehicles and in his own words “I guess they are a little more collectible”

Currently the car is on its way to him. The build took over a year and I think it looks fantastic. If I could pick out anything about it, personally it would have to be the RHD dash; if you look closely the dash has merely been swapped rather than converted, with the AC controls now in the centre of the car rather than the sides. For me I think this interrupts the flow as the original dash would go from under, up across the dash and down under on the other side, if that makes sense. But as I said that is nit-picking. This car looks fantastic and I am certainly very jealous.

I’m sure Adrian cannot wait until he gets to drive it. I’m told Adrian will keep us informed as to how it goes. Stay tuned.

She is fortunate enough to have the last Shelby Aluminum 427FE engine built by legendary race engine builder Keith Craft Racing (builder of all the Shelby Super Snake Eleanor Engines). It has been bored and stroked to 482ci. with a T Trim Vortech supercharger. Fast XFI Fuel Injection has been added and it has been dyno’d at 815bhp and 733 ft. lb. torque.

Backed up by a TKO 600 5 speed transmission and a 9” rear coilover axle this car has all the attributes of a modern performance car. The front end has been replaced with coilover suspension and a TCP rack & pinion steering kit. The car is pulled to a halt with Shelby/Baer 13” front disc brakes and 12” rear discs.
