The Eleanor World Registry has been running for a few years now and has been a great way to keep track of all the Eleanors being built around the world.

The great thing about the registry is that all the car information is collected and pinned to a google map, so you can easily see what car is where (although not down to the owners street, for obvious reasons)

So If you have ever wondered how many Eleanors were in Africa? Or how many were Black with a 289? Convertibles? Coupes?

Then wonder no more, the complete list is downloadable in a Comma Separated Value (CSV) format for you to be able to download and import into excel or your favorite spreadsheet.

Massive respect must go out to Richard who created the registry. You will all know Richard’s car, It’s the most looked at post in the history of this site.

It’s not too often you come across a review of a car that is 45 years old so when I found this great video I had to share it with you all. Fitness Professional and car enthusiast, Rob Riches, gets behind the wheel of a nice blue 1967 GT Fastback and takes us on a cruise around sunny California.

Here’s a little blurb from the video. “One of the best examples of the 67 Mustang on the road today, lovingly rebuilt and upgraded with many racing spec parts, including a 400-bhp, big-block V8 under the hood. Learn about the history and specifications of this true Muscle car as well as experience a unique perspective of the beautiful canyon roads in Southern California. A must-see for any car enthusiast!”

There’s not much else to say, so sit back and enjoy the video.

Earlier this year I was contacted by the guys at Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords magazine asking if they could do a small write up in their magazine. Obviously I agreed and after answering some questions I was told the article would appear in the September 08 issue in the Cyber Stallions column.

Now because I am in Australia I was unable to get a copy and I have been told the Cyber Stallions column has been cut for the latest issues, so I’m not 100% certain the article actually made it to print, so if anyone has it please let me know. Here is the article if you feel like a read. If anyone has the issue feel free to send me a scan!

An Eleanor from Down Under

By Jeff Bauer

Think it’s hard doing a Mustang project car in the United States? Try doing one in Australia. “I think it’s slightly more difficult (in Australia), but not by much,” said Cameron O’Shea, a 25-year-old Sydney resident who is documenting on his 67 Mustang Blog (www.67mustangblog.com) the transformation of his ’67 Fastback into an “Eleanor” from the 2000 remake of Gone in 60 Seconds. “With the advent of the Internet just about any part is available at your fingertips. The downside is obviously shipping, but everything is manageable.”

O’Shea purchased the fastback—a very straight, rust-free specimen with a 289 and a C4 that came from Southern California via China—off eBay in July 2004. He started his blog in late December 2006 to “post all my thoughts, my updates, my photos, my impatience, and of course the state of my dwindling back account.” Although O’Shea is not a mechanic or restorer and is having the work done by John Stephens, a friend with the necessary expertise, the amount of research he’s put into the project is astounding. “I tend to spend most of my time online sourcing, researching, and ordering parts that are hard to find, like the authentic French-made steering wheel,” O’Shea said.

The steering wheel saga is just one of many stories that make 67 Mustang Blog an entertaining read. O’Shea wanted the exact steering wheel used on the movie Eleanor, which he’d learned was a 15″ laminated mahogany Lecarra Mark 3 Supreme Tear Drop wheel with a 1.5-inch dish that was produced in the company’s French factory until about 2002. After patiently waiting for months, he was finally able to purchase a U.S.-manufactured Lecarra—only to discover it was not the same as the movie wheel. So he sold it on eBay and resumed his search. The kicker? Soon after, a friend stumbled across the exact steering wheel for sale at a random auto parts store close to O’Shea’s home! O’Shea snapped it up; later, he came across someone who sold a “correct” wheel on eBay for $513!

O’Shea shares honestly about all aspects of his Eleanor project: the research, the parts chase, the successes, the delays, and the setbacks. Many posts are accompanied by multiple photos or video, and are written in a way that not only tells O’Shea’s story, but also provides valuable information to other owners. Don’t forget to check out the Comments to the posts–there’s quite a bit of gold there as well. O’Shea goes well above and beyond the call of duty to answer his visitor’s questions as best he can.

Probably the best way to approach 67 Mustang Blog is to simply start with the archived December 2006 posts and read the entire site chronologically. But posts are also grouped so you can read everything he’s written in seven categories, including Body (he’s using an Australian-made Eleanor kit), Parts, Project Updates, and more. You also can view the Sitemap for an index of all posts, or the Most Viewed category to see what others have found interesting.

Between project car updates, O’Shea blogs about Mustang topics he finds newsworthy. The most popular of these by far has been the saga of Unique Performance, a Texas-based restoration shop that apparently started with high hopes but in many cases failed to deliver, eventually going bankrupt and auctioning off its assets, leaving 143 people without their cars or their money amid allegations that the shop removed or destroyed VINs of more than 60 vehicles.

Other topics O’Shea has covered—with tons of photos and videos as well as words—include Dynacorn’s ’67 and ’68 Mustang fastback “replacement” body shells, a ’67 Mustang project that was lost in a fire, photos of fellow Mustangers’ projects, and coverage of local car shows.
So what’s the Mustang scene like in Australia? “I have been to a few All Ford Days and was surprised at the amount of Mustangs. I noticed a lot more vintage Stangs than late-model ones,” O’Shea said. “I know some vintage guys cringe at the thought of my ‘restomod’ but hey, I’m young, so I don’t really care. It looks unreal so I’m going for it.”

Thanks To Jeff and the guys at Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords magazine

This is something that has been playing on my mind for a quite some time. Should I notch the shock towers to allow more room for some nice extractors or should I leave it as is?

Originally I had no worries with notching the towers which meant lots more room (about 11″) for some nice extractors such as these. I even bought the RRS notching kit. But now I’m leaning towards leaving it as is. Mainly because I don’t want to change the look of the engine bay too dramatically and also I want to keep the engine bay quite ‘correct’ in the way of decals. I know there is one decal that is placed on the towers.

Keeping it all original in the engine bay is something I’m very adamant about now. I was fortunate enough to get my car with the original engine, all matching numbers. Plus it’s a 289 not a 351 or something bigger.

The plus side to having the extra room I’m told is that we could fit some nice extractors and bits and pieces helping to give the car a nice sound about her.

Take a look at what the RRS notching kit can looks like. So what do you think? I’m keen to hear your thoughts.

I was taking a look at iblogmustang the other day and noticed Kris posted a nice video of the legendary 1968 Ford Mustang GT390 vs the modern Ford Mustang GT390. It’s a great video from Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson who pitches the modern stang against the vintage ‘Bullit‘ mustang. Go over and take a look, it’s well worth it.

But this got me thinking because I remember Top Gear running a ‘History of the Mustang’ segment one day and would you believe it, I found it!

In the sixties many new sounds came to the world. There was the wail of the protest song, the beep from an orbiting satellite, the ‘whomp’ of a Huey helicopter and best of all….THIS!……The bellow of a V8 Ford Mustang

enjoy!

First off I needed a car and since the movie in 2000 1967 mustangs in good shape (little to no rust, straight body) have been hard to come by, or are really expensive.

John managed to secure one for me we saw on eBay, we contacted the guy and he ended the auction early for us, and better still the car had NO RUST and had a straight, accident free body (or so we thought) more on that later. Anyway here’s what I started with.

And here’s the original ad:

Vehicle Description

1967 MUSTANG FASTBACK

A-CODE 289 4V. C4 Auto Transmission. Candy Apple Red exterior. Parchment interior. I purchased the car in 1999. Car was completely together and ran good. I started to restore it in 1999 and since then have had to move twice, start a new job, smaller garage, etc. which has kept me from finishing it. The car is really a tip top project. NO RUST or rot on the inside or out what so ever. As far as I’m concerned it could be finished with a paint job and interior work, some trim, and misc detailing. Very straight body. Unfortunately I need to sell this car due to lack of parking, and space, etc. I would like somebody to have it that will finish and appreciate it. I have tried to list as much info as I can about the car. I’d rather list too much then too little. Please contact me for more info, or if you would like specific pictures taken and emailed to you.

Hello world indeed!

Well i’m finally up and running with a blog i wanted to start quite some time ago. So here it is, somewhere where i can post all my thoughts, my updates, my photos, my impatience and of course the state of my dwindling back account.

Name is Cameron, I’m a 23 year old living in Sydney, Australia working in Publishing and i own a 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback, which is being restored into an “Eleanor” from the 2000 remake of Gone in 60 Seconds with Nicolas Cage.

Now i lay this down from the start, i suck at cars! i mean i know a bit, but i’m no mechanic. so ask me to point out the air conditioner and i’ll point to the ABS system (yeah laugh! it actually happened once) and yes i know 60’s mustang’s don’t have ABS, it was another car.

So you ask “how can you restore a classic like this when you don’t know anything? you’re mad, you’re a butcher” Well no, i do like the odd New York steak but..well you know what i mean.

My good friend John who restores Mustang’s in his spare time has taken on my old girl. He does the work and basically i pay the bills, hunt down parts, drool, annoy him for news and now post on my blog. I’ve had the car for about 2 years now, and although it’s been slow i’d say im half way there. I’m hoping to have it all done by the end of 2007.

So sit back and i hope you enjoy the ride.
