Changing it up: How we're moving away from the Eleanor Mustang

If you would have told me 10 years ago that my loved Eleanor Project will be scrapped one day in favour for a more standard looking GT500 resto-mod I would have said you’re mad. But that is just what is happening this year. When I first saw the remake of Gone in 60 Seconds I just had to have that car Nicholas Cage tore up the town in. Given though, i was a young 20 year old! Now almost 15 years have passed and I’ve grown up (not much though) and so the tough decision was made to change focus and now build a GT500 tribute. Fortunately I found one I love sold a while back by RK Motors which I’m basing it off. Some may think I am mad but I feel that Eleanor just has a feel of my past about it and a bit of a novelty car. A GT500 tribute, to me, is a car i could take on weekend drives without causing too much of a scene. It’s stunning, yet understated.

SO WHAT NOW?

As you can see in these pictures the blue GT500 tribute is very different from Eleanor. So the work has already begun to take off the Eleanor nose and hood we have already fitted. Though we are keeping the fuel filler location and a few other bits from the Eleanor styling cues. I’m also currently purchasing all the parts needed to make this resto-mod the most incredible project car around. Over the coming year I’ll go into more details but we are sparing no expense. From a brand new engine, to custom made Carroll Shelby signature gauges we’ve just received, nothing will be left out. So stay tuned because I’m hoping the next 12 months will be filled with project updates, something i’ve been slack on over the past few years. [images]]]>

    It’s been a long time since I’ve posted and I’m glad your site is still active.
    As much as I love Eleanor the RK GT500 is an awesome looking car, with a supercharged coyote motor in it , it would be a freak on the street.

    It’s been a while since I last visited and was checking into see how your Eleanor build was going.
    I’ve purchased some non-essentials like the movie-correct steering wheel from our french mate Dom, the PIAA 959 lights (love the lenses in them) and personalised plates in QLD that matches the plates in the movie (when I was buying them “ELEANOR” was on sale for $25k, no thanks!). Still need a body, lol!
    Sad to see you change direction but the GT500 tribute I can’t wait to see the results (it’d be my next option too!).
    I tell you, after visiting the Shelby museum in Vegas last month, my love for the Mustang (and Eleanor) hasn’t waned at all, it’s probably got stronger since! (bad thing for the hippocket) Hope the tribute build isn’t as finicky as Eleanor and all the best with it!

    Good to hear from you mate. Keep plugging away. We’ll both end up with cars some day hah!
    So I’m hoping this year and the first half of next will be big for me. The funds are all there and waiting to be spent. My building is just so busy and behind schedule on two other builds. We’ve ordered the Shelby kit and it’s arrived. So it’s just the hours to be put in now. I don’t think it will be as time consuming as Eleanor as everything should fit nicely. Plus we’re buying all new parts, engine, trans the works. So hopefully there’s no niggling problems there
    Unfortunately I haven’t much time to post about the industry like i did before but when the car gets underway I’ll be posting updates regularly! So thanks for checking in and keep doing so.
